Friday night turns into Karaoke!

With my birthday looming, I was still at a loss what to do for my impending birthday celebrations. Not wanting to go down the same route, as my friends where we go to a brunch spend lots of cash, get completely wasted (well I always did), then go home and feel hungry again. I wanted to do something entertaining and cheap, where nobody felt obliged to fork, over 300 - 500 dhms.

It was when I was complaining to a friend of mine, she mentioned the idea of Karaoke which I knew straight away was the perfect choice! Being a fan of Rock bottom Tecom, I almost cried when I found that they did karaoke on a Friday.

Loving the fact that I didn’t have to dress up, wear make up or heels (which due to my media who*ring I have to do almost every day) I walked into rock bottom, savoring the cement floors and tacky decor…. I was home!

The usually crowded RB was subdued, with bean bags on the floor with people getting up and singing. Some were absolutely terrible (one of them where part of my party) some were amazing and some (me) got up there and did the shuffle… But we all had one thing in common we all got a shot, on the house when we finished our performance!

Once the karaoke had been finished, we were nicely lubricated thanks, to the many shots and birthday drinks I was being feed.

Through out the night, free shots were given to the girls, we got up and danced to the live band playing Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, I had flip flops on, I even got up on the bar (though I was told to get off).

Rock Bottom Tecom on a Friday night, is definitely the place to go to, if you want to have a simple no frills, relaxing night. I can guarantee you will NEVER have a bad time at Rock Bottom!

K-Lynn "Festive Fashion Solutions"

Without a doubt K-Lynn is one of my all time favorite stores to buy, the things you never knew you needed (or how you lived without). From SPANX to foam sticky things, that are used to cover your nips, when wearing a sheer dress, that you can’t wear a bra with (I used to use band aids).

Every week in store, K-Lynn will be showcasing their, Festive Fashion Solutions throughout out December, in the boutique windows. You can see a mannequin showing how to solve those tricky outfit dilemmas i.e.: Backless, Strapless, Plunging Neckline.

What I also LOVE about this campaign, is they welcome you to bring in your tricky outfits during December, which they can help you come up with a solution + you will also receive 15% off your purchases (they also throw in a little ‘Festive Fashion’ gift).

What I learnt at K-Lynn this Festive Fashion month is, there are little cute plastic straps you can use, to transfer your normal bra, into a cross over bra. Now all I need to do is start wearing bra’s and I will be set!

It’s the only way you can guarantee that you will make it into the magazines… Think Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and me!

Cucumbers & Carrots should they be banned because they resemble male genitalia?

An unnamed Sheike residing in Europe, has stated in an article on El-Senousa, that if women wish to eat foods resembling the male genitalia, a third party male should be present to cut it into small pieces first. Apparently seeing these kinds of foods will arouse a women or make them think of sex.

The man states that this has to do with religion, but ironically his comments have caused anger and embarrassment in the Muslim community, many stating that statements like these give Muslims a bad name, my favorite comment, is someone asking if he is retarded.

Obviously we all know the real reason he wants to ban, cucumbers and carrots, it has nothing to do with religion. The guy obviously a baby carrot instead of a normal sized carrot, if you catch my drift, obviously the normal sized carrots make his baby carrot feel inadequate.

On another note, why can’t a married women be sexually aroused, does it state somewhere that a married woman can’t enjoy a shag with her husband or be the one to come on to him?

Does anyone else feel like a cucumber salad after reading this, or is it just me?

I stumbled across

http://www.fmylife.com

FML (Fu*k My Life) Life is made up of people submitting really bad (but so humorous) things that, have happened to them.

Some of my favorite submissions included;

“I wouldn’t buy my son the toy he wanted, so he screamed, Dads right you are a b*tch, in front of everyone in the toy store… FML”

“My boyfriend didn’t realize I looked into his suitcase after he had packed, for the boys only camping trip… He had packed condoms FML”

*Warning* This website is addictive, without realizing it I spent about 2 hours on it…

Short on Cash in Dubai?

We all work full time, but do you ever find that some months, you’re short of cash. Whether it’s because you’ve just spent, half a pay check on those ‘must have’ shoes (and hid the receipt because your husband / boyfriend will kill you if they found out) or because, it’s now party season and money for brunches don’t grow on trees.

Well you’re not alone, I’ve pretty much described half the population in Dubai, but there are ways to make some extra pocket money;

Clear out your wardrobe and make some extra cash,

Every now and then a wardrobe clear out is needed (Why the hell did I buy zebra knee length shorts) so you can fit in this seasons must have items.

Instead of throwing it out you can give it to a charity, or if the clothes are in decent condition you can use the following, to get rid of last seasons looks and have enough cash to… well yes it will be used to by this seasons must have items….

-My Ex Wardrobe

My Ex Wardrobe is the brain child of reformed Britons, who have been living in the dusty sandpit for 20 years. They will accept most clothes, bags and shoes not just designer items, but any decent items, as long as it is in great condition.

The seller then determines, the price of the items, the price is of course depending, on the label and the condition of the product. Depending on the label and how many items you have, you have the opportunity to make some serious cash.

Me “modeling” some clothes for My Ex Wardrobe, to be kept up to-date on their events follow them on facebook https://www.facebook.com/MyExWardrobe

- Dubai Flea Markets

The Dubai flea markets you can sell and buy, pretty much everything and anything! I’ve seen toasters, microwaves to vintage Fendi. A table costs around 50 dhms, to check when the next one’s on, go to; http://www.dubai-fleamarket.com/

Promotional Work

During the peak party seasons, Dubai based promoters are constantly looking for good looking men and women, to hand out flyers, get people in the party mood at parties even to demonstrate how to use juicers. You don’t just need to be moderately attractive, you also need to have a personality and be able to talk to people easily. The benefits of promoting in your spare time is you can earn quite a lot of extra money!

*Warning* It can be hard work, standing in high heels for 5 hours, with a smile plastered on your face.

Some promotional companies I recommend are;

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pinpoint-Promotions/275878195782798

http://www.fameworx.com/home.php

*Editors Note, Don’t get put off, if you don’t consider yourself model material, I’m not either and I’ve done this.

Education

Are you bilingual? Can you play an instrument? Are you an artist?

Why not post an advert up on Dubizzle offering to teach your talents? Not only is it a great way to make some extra cash, you can also meet some like minded people and at the same time you get to practice your talent!

Want to win 2 x Kate Nash Tickets?

Watching a gig, which features a rapper is a new experience for me, I’m used to watching indie bands preform in basements, where drinks are served in plastic cups and everyone is jumping around like an idiot. So I presumed my usual uniform of one big statement earring, black leggings and huge black shit that hangs of one shoulder would do.

Well apparently not in Abu Dhabi, if you haven’t been to the club EIGHT, it’s a fab bar, with a back ground of light up bottles giving the bar a very sophisticated edge.

The men that were there, were either decked out in suits, jeans or cool urban rapper attire. But the women, the women wore gorgeous dresses, corsets or stylish on trend pants and shirts.

I was asked twice if I was a lesbian and once if I was French, the moral of the story, when you go out in Abu Dhabi, high heels, a hair straighter and a flashy dress are a must.

Kate Nash, the pied piper of hipster cool comes to Dubai.

Kate Nash performs for Unplugged, a bold and playful musical event taking place at The Amphitheatre, Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Stripping her music down to its barest elements, allowing people to see Kate Nash up-close and personal and to redress the balance between digital and analogue. The event is being touted as less electric, more acoustic.

If you don’t know who Kate Nash is, she is Platinum selling and Brit award winning recording artist. Am I the most Original?

As most of you know, Stoli Emirates has been sending all the cool kids to Stoli Original Parties as they were holding a competition for “Emirates Most Original”

I actually got picked for the final 7 and had to submit a video, talking about why I should be chosen as Stoli’s most original.

In my video I talk about, not possessing any talent yet still fooling people into taking me serious / inviting me to parties / making a living of having no talent!

On a more serious note, the winner wins a trip to LA, where he or she gets to go to the Play Boy mansion… OMGeeves!!! All I can do is imagine myself frolicking with the fake breasted, fake haired bunnies, they’ll all be wearing pastel colors (or nothing at all) I’ll be dressed appropriately in black, where hopefully if I’m lucky, I’ll meet an aging billionaire (Pfft anyone could be a millionaire) who takes a “special” liking to me, then get him to buy me what ever I want…..

Now the only way I’m going to achieve any of this, is if YOU vote for me… As of today I am currently ranked 5th out of 7 people, this competition also finishes on the 15th of November, that 5 days and counting!

To vote for yours truly, go to;

Why did you start blogging?

I saw a missing link in the UAE Blog-aphere, there were plenty of fashion blogs and blogs written by Jumeriah Janes but not to many blogs about events, parties where to go, the cool kid scene and random High – Larious. Another reason I started to blog was to blag my way into the VIP / A lister parties, which being a blogger is only half the battle, anyone can create a blog but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can blag your way in the the “cool kid crowd.” Lucky for me I’m a complete odd ball, which Dubai’s ‘It Crowd” was missing, so they welcomed me with open arms.

To be a successful blogger you need to connect with the reader, other wise no one will be interested

There’s all sorts of bloggers and blogs in Dubai, including vlogging! Do you think the scene is over saturated?

Who am I to judge the masses? That’s the great thing about the Internet, it gives you a chance to connect with strangers to give your thought and opinions, without being censored. In saying that I have come across some UAE “Bloggers” in which their blog consists of press releases and images. To be a successful blogger you need to connect with the reader, other wise no one will be interested to read your blog.

What does it take to get started with a good blog and get people interested?
To have a successful blog you need to find a niche in the market and talk about topics of interest to you. Sometimes I will post the most random thoughts on my blog and people seem to relate to it. I also threw “Clare and the City” ladies nights (free cocktails, candy, bubbles, massages, paparazzi etc.) because I would receive emails from girls wanting to know the best “Ladies Nights” in Dubai, as they were sick of the same “champaign and sleazy guys.” I also partnered up with a couple of products and started competitions.

Which of your posts are you most proud of and why?

I couldn’t tell you which blog post I am most proud off, though my favorite blogs posts are the posts I do about the VIP parties. The reader can come to the party with me via my blog, I feel like it gives an insight to the other side of Dubai. I think I resonate in people as well, because of my ability to make fun of myself and not care what people think of me (perfect example if me pole dancing at an event).

What is the best part of being Clare in The City?

The best part about being “Clare and the city” is being able to let my crazier odd ball side out even if it is just at parties and via my blog. Usually I kept my alter ego hidden, only to come out when the word vodka and mud wrestling was mentioned.

http://societeperrier.com/dubai/2011/10/23/better-know-a-blogger-clare-and-the-city/

I’m tre excited to write my first entry, I’m thinking of trying to go to every single ladies night on a Tuesday and documenting my exploits. From the classy champaign and high heel events to the down and plain dirty ones like rock bottom!

Check out the Societe Perrier Facebook to keep up to date on all the entries, and meet the other Luminaries!

I found this out via his facebook page and felt so deeply gutted. When I came to Dubai, it was unfortunately the peak of the rescission (timing has never been a strong point of mine). There were stories in the media about 1,000’s of cars being left at the airport and people fleeing the country, stories about companies have hiring freezes etc.

Whilst on my mission to find a job in Dubai, I ran into a guy the same age as me and also from Australia, we formed a close bond, over both being unemployed. We would meet up in the mornings at Starbucks, use their wireless internet and troll through the newspapers in search of jobs. We would bond over free drinks (a rarity as we don’t have free booze in Australia) and we would do visa runs together.

He eventually got a job in Abu Dhabi, unfortunately the company went under 2 weeks after him getting the job, which forced him to make the decision to move back to Australia.

We still kept in contact via facebook and as far as I knew nothing was wrong, how wrong I was.

I know at some point in our lives we become so depressed by life, or things beyond our control that we may think of doing this. But I think back to my lowest points in my life and realize if it wasn’t for the low points the high points in life wouldn’t be as sweet.

Rather then going out dressed like the cast of Jersey Shore or Lady GaGa, which trust me gets you horrified looks from cab drivers, when you’re trying to haul your drunk and tired ass home, from a night of fist pumping in the club.

Why not wear a fabulous outfit and team it up with a stick on mustache, I found these fabulous “Mustache Band Aids” from It’s Sugar Middle East.

We all had such a great time, they asked me to be one of their main presenters for the upcoming season!

Hope you enjoy the videos, we had such a great time filming, though by the end of the day I couldn’t even remember my own name I was so mentally drained!

Cosmo Bachelor of the year 2011

Cocktails, DJ’s and hot men to treat like pieces of meat for once,What more could a girl ask for?

This morning when I was asked to go to the crowing of the Cosmo Bachelor of the year, Middle East addition, I didn’t have to be asked twice.

Having a look at the men who are in the running for the coveted tittle, *Go to this link to check out the <strike>pieces of meat</strike> men http://www.ahlanlive.com/photos/cosmopolitan-hot-bachelors-140568.html I saw more beef cake then I have in a while.

Speaking honestly, my type of guy is the intelligent almost nerdy, hipster, cool kid who MUST have a tinge of redness to his hair (what can I say I have a type). But I’m not looking at dating any of these guys, I’m just going to objectify them based on how they look.

Stay tuned for the pictures and story of how the night unfolds… I have a feeling this is going to be one party where the girls get the last laugh…

For your viewing pleasure… Meet Justin I didn’t read any more of his bio because I don’t really care about what he like or who he really is, just look at those Abs….

I’m also listening to LMFAO ”I’m sexy and I know it” to get me in the mood.

C.

Carolina Herrera launch of her new fragrance VIP 212

After 9 months of terrorizing the masses at parties and events, via my High-larious outfits, loud and brash comments, robot dance moves and chain smoking the unthinkable happened, I was invited to an A list event.

The event was to celebrate iconic designer Carolina Herrera’s, new perfume launch in Dubai, the event itself was held at the always impressive Burj Khalifa, At.mosphere (on the 122nd floor Daring). Knowing that this event was toted as VIP, I knew my usual uniform, of shock value clothes wouldn’t be accepted. So I ditched the 80’s inspired shoulder pads and nerd glasses for *Gasp* a little black dress, high heels and white gloves (think gossip girl white gloves inspired).

It was a little strange once we arrived, not to be looked down upon for my outfit choice. Instead I actually had men check me out, the bloggers couldn’t believe my transformation from trendy hipster geek to classy and chic.

Attendees included, Dubai’s Glittarari, Editors of Esquire and Hello, Fashion Critics and the usual crowd of beautiful people, which included one of the Cosmos Bachelors (yes ladies he looks even better and buffer up close and personal).

Dubai Blogger darlings, Teresa & Lisa

Derek Khan (he was a judge on USA Next top model & the UAE’s most sort after stylist).

As the rose petal martinis flowed, conversation led from douchy to High - Larity my favorite quote of the night; “I can’t believe they banned me for life at Rock Bottom, for dancing on the bar.”

The queen herself graced us with her presence, the lady behind the fashion and fragrance empire, Carolina Herrera. Meeting her in person, she is quite gorgeous and has aged gracefully as a lady should (Joan Collins that was a dig at you).

Being on my best behavior, no I did not lick a pole nor did I throw up in the gift bag, I acted like the perfect lady… That was until I got into the elevator with my plus 1 for the evening my friend Yasmine, where we were meet with douches in suits, who seemed to think it was funny to laugh at my gloves and talk about myself and Yasmin Arabic… Obviously it wasn’t so funny when they realized we could understand them…

In conclusion, even if you wear a little black dress you can’t please everybody.

But why is she welcomed with open arms?

I want to start this post with this fact, I myself am not a KK hater, I absolutely adore her. But a good friend of mine made a very valid point, why is she being welcomed in Dubai with open arms, when in fact she is famous for the following;

- Her late father was close friends and represented OJ Simpson during his murder trial.

- She made a sex tape with her ex boyfriend and hip hop star, Ray J, which was leaked and then bought for a cool 1 million.

- She was BFF’s with Paris Hilton for a short time.

- Her reality show, which features her family and their HIGH-LARIOUS day to day lives, and the running of her store DASH.

To reiterate again, I am not a hater I am just stating the facts, so the question remains, in a country that prides themselves on being conservative and Islamic why is a women of this caliber being welcomed with open arms?

Obviously Kim draws a crowed and the paps and tabliods can’t get enough of her, which makes her a perfect key for Dubai’s ever growing PR campaign, I just feel the whole thing is very contradicting. Then again, living in Dubai for 3 years, Dubai is full of contradictions… Rattle Snake anyone?

Men Vs. Women... The Age Debate

It’s the age old question, why is it that when men age, they become more ruggedly handsome, they age like fine whisky. But women we tend to look like wrinkly prunes.

Case and point Dylan Mcdermontt, I was reading an interview about him when they mentioned that he was the big 5-0… My jaw dropped to the floor, even at 50 he is still the most gorgeous man.

Thanks to celebrities like George Cloony, Richard Gere Antonio Bendaras men who should be labeled over the hill, are more sexier then ever.
